About Us

The Rotaract Club of Thunder Bay is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. The program is part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world. Through the Rotaract program, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills, but they also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service. Our club was inaugurated officially on January 26th, 2003. Our Founding President was Katie Ischkin and she was supported by her founding executive: Gen Veltri, Sarah Muir, Katy Rich and Sarah Tomlinson. Our official sponsor club is the Rotary Club of Thunder Bay - Port Arthur. At the inauguration ceremony our club was presented with our official Rotary International certificate, our meeting bell and gavel, the Canadian and American Flags, Certification from other Rotary Clubs, a Four Way Test banner and our official Rotaract Club of Thunder Bay Banner. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Prince Arthur Hotel and in special attendance we had Ken Boschkoff (Past Mayor of Thunder Bay), Al Watrel (Past District Governor Rotary District 5580) and all Rotary Presidents and many special Rotarian guests. Since that date our club has grown from ten members to well over thirty. Our club is strong, exciting and full of energy! Today, Rotaract continues to experience phenomenal growth. There are currently more than 7,500 Rotaract clubs in more than 162 countries, with an estimated membership of more than 173,000 Rotaractors. As the program continues to grow, Rotaractors repeatedly show that they are prepared for "Fellowship Through Service."
